Greetings. How was your day? Mine? Challenging. In fact, I spent most of it practically non-verbal with frustration about how the media is spinning Tsunami Tuesday and the on-and-on analysis, ’signifying nothing’, as the famous bard, Will, wrote, perennially relevant, as usual.
Even NPR, reporting on the newest ‘byte’ about how the Dems will continue to finance what promises to be a very long race, is not reporting the full story. They expressed amazement at recent Obama contribution accumulations, despite his ‘edge’ with the educated, upper-middle-class liberal set (well, some of them, I mean, not me or many of my friends, colleagues…). Of course, people with more money have more money to give, I thought.
What did they say about Hillary? She’s using her OWN MONEY. They imply that’s a red flag, that that means she’s in trouble.
Well, I’m realizing, as I listen to this, that today is not a good news analysis day.
When there isn’t much ‘real news’, they tend to spin.
At home, I visit the Hillary campaign website and discover that the Clinton Campaign has bagged a good 4 million in one day and the contributions continue to accumulate.
Would this have been SO DIFFICULT to report along side Obama’s contribution report??!!
Why is the media spinning the Obama campaign so positively when, to me, choosing Obama over Hillary seems like agreeing to a proposal of marriage from someone after 3 dates instead of one with someone whom one has spent alot of time in many, many different ways over a number of years?
Are people just avoiding hesitations about Hillary by going with Obama and, what would those hesitations be?
I’m going to go out on a precarious limb here and whisper something really quietly here, “Sexism is alive and thriving in America today.” There, the cat that has already practically ripped the bag to shreads is finally out. In fact, the great feminists from 30 years ago are stepping up to re-identify, as they have 1000’s of times, that this very dynamic is keeping a great public servant working X times harder than any male contender.
Women and men, I don’t know about you but I’m tired of seeing us sitting behind every reception desk, waiting tables, scrubbing floors in public buildings, wheeling daycare mega-strollers by on the street. However, what we are asked to do, and find to do, for work and in our lives does prove–hands down, no vote needed–THAT WOMEN KNOW HOW TO SERVE.
Now, I want to see justice served by seeing a smart, passionate public servant who has more than done her time and actually wants the job of President, gain what should be known as the role of the greatest public servant in the United States, because she’s earned it.
Madam President has a great ring, don’t you think?
This is Chelsea and America Ferrera (aka. Ugly Betty) talking up Hillary around Nevada. Seeing some younger folks really ‘get’ that Hillary’s got what it takes, made my day.
Enjoy!

~ apologies to recent readers for the disappearance of this video from youtube and thus, this entry! ~

Dear Ms. Anti-Spin,
Thanks for weighing in & linking to the video. I’ve seen so little in the media that shows younger & diverse voices… I’m waiting patiently for your next post–it’s hard to know how to hold the info that does get through. As a woman & a mother, witnessing the national sexism that’s being so blatently displayed by the media is discouraging at best. What a bubble we were all living in!
Yours,
Chivas

My dear Ms. C ~ Thanks for reading, thinking and writing back! I, myself, found solace in this video. Things like this keep us going! I (and others) think that only women in government will change minds and policy, thus we must persevere. Interestingly, our own Hillary, while speaking to teacher in Texas during our latest ‘kinda crazy’ Potomac primary, and in an interview with Katie Couric on 60 Minutes on Sunday night, is displaying an incredible level of perseverence at this time.
She will not say ‘what if’, she will not look down, she has her eye on the prize. Period. Now really, is this not a great quality to have in a President of the United States?
keeping on keepin’ on,
Ms. SpinC
